MALENY JUNIOR CRICKET CLUB

As most Aussies know, cricket is a very popular sport and it’s great to know that it’s easy to get involved, here in Maleny, whether as a player or in an official capacity.

The Maleny Junior Cricket Club is run by volunteers who are there so that it is part of Maleny’s sporting life and to support the young people who decide to give it a go. The approved program the junior cricketers follow is devised by the Australian Cricket Board so the standards required by each age level are met.

The club provides facilities such as the training nets, bowling and fielding equipment etc and more importantly, coaching and training for the young players.

Starting at the non competitive Have A Go levels for the youngest enthusiast (6 years old), junior cricket tries to field age level sides right up to senior cricket. So if your son or daughter wants to get involved, please enquire to the president of the club below who will be able to provide the information your family needs to become involved.

Many parents provide the crucial support at matches by taking turns at umpiring, scoring or just showing up with a flask of tea and a deck chair to cheer the team on from! The bonds formed in these early years of cricket are strong and often provide a foundation for life encompassing commitment, mateship, team-work and dedication. It’s also a fun and rewarding sport to play, where the players’skills base increases yearly. The most competent junior cricketers are streamed into regional and divisional teams if they so wish. You could have a budding Australian Eleven player in your family – who knows?

The beautiful Maleny Showgrounds is our home ground and we are lucky to have 2 ovals, one turf and one synthetic.

The season runs from September to March, with a break over the Christmas school holidays.

Sign on for all teams is held in September/October and once all player registrations are received, club management will make up the sides, so it’s always important to look out for the registration dates in The Range News.
