In a David and Goliath style clash, the Maleny Maple Street Co-op is battling Queensland Health in court over the sale of unpasteurised, or "raw" milk.
Authorities alledge the Co-op breached the Food Act by promoting Cleopatra's Bath Milk as fit for human consumption.
A plainclothes Queensland Health agent visited the store in February and purchased a bottle of the milk, with a label that stated in block letters "cosmetic skin treatment only". It is alledged that a Co-op employee stated that although it was meant for cosmetic use, she drank the raw milk product.
"We just expected that people would read the label..." Co-op director Karen Syrmis said "Even on the point-of-sale system when you sell the product, (it) came up as 'remind this customer that it is not for human consumption," she said.

No doubt about it:
Public wants better
If Andrew Powell had any doubts how the community felt about the condition of the Maleny-Kenilworth Road, they were quickly dispelled on Monday.
The Member for Glass House spent the day walking the 34km from Little Yabba Creek to Maleny in an attempt to inspire the State Government to finish its upgrading of the road - parts of which he says resemble a goat track.

re Cleaopatra's Bath Milk Written by don-de-plume on 2010-05-16 08:58:57My family have been using this milk exclusively ever since Trevor Mahaffey started making it available. Our health is exceptional.
As a child I grew up with fresh raw milk. I was very proud of Daisy & Myrtle and wondered why all families didn't have their own farm animals.
I imagine that every land owner who has enough space has a cow & drinks the milk. This has been the case ever since settlement of Australia.
Where is there any evidence of harm, for over two hundred years? Where is the current evidence of harm?
Start a survey of all those who use it (& have for the long term) to put to the authorites for comment.
Fiona Simpson & Howard Hobbs have previously supported the right to choice regarding this whole fresh milk in the Qld Parliament.
Who made these dills telling us what is good for us & what is not?
